Suppressed and Vacant Sees

The Synod of Bishops of The Old Catholic Church of the Americas has bishops residing in the following states: Arkansas, Colorado, New York, and Texas. However, the Synod constantly evaluates the ministry in each region. Ministries wax and wane, and as a result, the Synod has made structural changes to the way the overall church is organized. Thus, the following jurisdictions within the OCCOA have been suppressed because there was no evidence of significant parochial ministry. In its place, the Synod created a Missionary Province with borders that are consistent with the Continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and all U.S. Territories.

For purposes of history, however, the following is a list of the historic dioceses of the OCCOA that are currently suppressed. If a pastoral need arises in any of the areas mentioned below, contact the Ordinary of the Missionary Province of North America.

Old Catholic Missionary Diocese of the Midwest (suppressed), borders consistent with North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana.

Old Catholic Missionary Territory of New Mexico (suppressed), borders consistent with the State of New Mexico.

Old Catholic Diocese of New York (suppressed) borders coexistent with the States of New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts.  Since suppression, these territories have been included in the Missionary Diocese of the Northeast.

Old Catholic Diocese of the Southeast (suppressed) borders coexistent with the Southern States from the Atlantic Coast to the Mississippi River and south of Virginia and West Virginia. Since suppression, these territories have been included in the Missionary Diocese of the Northeast.

Old Catholic Diocese of Texas (suppressed), borders coexistent with the boundaries of the State of Texas.  Since suppression, the State of Texas has been included in the Missionary Diocese of the Midwest.

Old Catholic Diocese of the Transfiguration (suppressed), border consistent with the State of California.

Old Catholic Diocese of the Uniformed Services (suppressed). This diocese had a world-wide jurisdiction for ministry to our brothers and sisters in uniformed military and civilian military and paramilitary service, including fire protection, ambulance services, and armed forces retirees and veterans.

Evangelical Catholic Diocese of the Northwest (suppressed). This diocese was the former ministry of Bishop James A. Wilkowski of Chicago, Illinois, who has since joined the Missionary Province and assumed responsibility over the same states where his former diocese was engaged.
